Gentner thanks the board “for trust”
Gentner, who became German champion with Stuttgart in 2007, was previously head of the licensed player department at the Bundesliga club, and was now promoted internally. The 39-year-old, who played 373 competitive games for Stuttgart during his playing days, thanked the board “for the trust they have placed in me by appointing me as sports director.”

Gentner: Two times champion, 430 Bundesliga games
The former midfielder Gentner, who also won the German championship with VfL Wolfsburg in 2009, played a total of 430 Bundesliga games (46 goals) for Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Union Berlin. Gentner ended his active career at FC Luzern in Switzerland in 2023.
