Team USA takes the lead heading into final day at the Presidents Cup

Defending champion USA takes an 11:7 lead into the individual matches on Sunday (from 6:00 p.m. LIVE and EXCLUSIVELY on Sky Sport Golf).

After a 5-0 lead on the first day that was immediately erased by a strong Team International on Friday, the U.S. team won both Saturday sessions 3-1 and entered the deciders with an overall lead of 11-7 twelve individual games on Sunday. But the luxury of a four-point cushion for the defending champions looked anything but certain after half of the delayed four-way games in the afternoon, as Mike Weir’s Team International, in which the two Koreans Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim played the main roles, once again fought a hard and determined fight.

Foursomes results on Saturday

  • Taylor Pendrith (Can) and Adam Scott (Aus) win against Max Homa and Brian Harman (USA) – 2up
  • Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns (USA) win against Corey Conners (Can) and Mackenzie Hughes (Can) – 1up
  • Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele (USA) win against Si Woo Kim (Kor) and Tom Kim (Kor) – 1up
  • Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley (USA) win against Hideki Matsuyama (Jap) and Sungjae Im (Kor) – 3&2

The afternoon turns into a crime thriller

Scottie Scheffler may have absolutely dominated golf this year – he has won eight times on the PGA Tour – but the American struggled with the putter on the first holes of the afternoon. However, the two-time Masters champion eventually found his form and celebrated a success in the foursomes with his partner Russell Henley against the international duo Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im.

The rest of the afternoon then developed into a thriller. All remaining duels were decided on the last hole. Team International only managed to win thanks to the duo Taylor Pendrith and Adam Scott.

USA is aiming for its tenth title in a row

In the end, Conners/Hughes and the Kim duo didn’t have the nerve and lost to the US pairings Morikawa/Burns and Cantlay/Schauffele.

In the fourballs, Team International was also only able to win one duel. The duo Kim/Kim achieved this against Bradley/Clark.

Saturday fourball results

  • Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa (USA) win against Adam Scott (Aus) and Taylor Pendrith (Can) – 2&1
  • Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele (USA) win against Corey Conners (Can) and Mackenzie Hughes (Can) – 3&2
  • Si Woo Kim (Kor) and Tom Kim (Kor) win against Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark (USA) – 4&3
  • Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns (USA) win against Hideki Matsuyama (Jap) and Sungjae Im (Kor) – 2&1

The USA is now in a good position to extend its Presidents Cup winning streak to ten consecutive tournaments. But despite the 11:7 lead, anything is still possible on the last day of the final, as twelve points are still up for grabs in the final individual matches.
