With a sensational 5-0 win in the foursomes, Team International achieved a surprising success against the USA. Captain Mike Weir’s team equalized the Presidents Cup at 5:5 after day 2.
Nobody expected this turnaround after the 0:5 start the day before, but Team International fought its way back into the tournament impressively. At the Royal Montreal Golf Club, the International Team played a strong session that also included a record-breaking loss for Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. This means that both teams go into the double session on Saturday evenly balanced.
Excitement before the decisive Saturday
The Presidents Cup will be played over four days and five sessions. Four-ball, foursome and singles matches are played, similar to the Ryder Cup. However, the Presidents Cup features more games in the first two sessions and the event takes place over four days instead of three.
The LIV Golf players are excluded from the tournament because it is organized by the PGA Tour. This means Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and other former players from the International Team who have moved to LIV Golf are missing.
Strong teams, great expectations
Team USA is led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won eight tournaments in 2024. Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley are also part of the strong line-up. Hideki Matsumaya, Adam Scott, Jason Day and Corey Conners are competing for the international team.
The USA has historically dominated the Presidents Cup, with twelve victories in the past 14 events. But the international team hopes to create a sensation on “home” soil in Quebec, Canada, and end their 26-year losing streak.
