Golf professional Stephan Jäger missed his second victory on the PGA Tour by just three strokes.
At the Black Desert Championship in Ivins, Utah, the 35-year-old only had to give way to American Matt McCarty, who was unbeatable in only his third tour start. “I tried everything and that’s why I’m totally satisfied,” said the second-place hunter.
The Olympian, who had led after the first two rounds, went into the final round two shots behind McCarty; after 15 holes he was only one shot behind. But the rookie responded with two birdies – and won. Jäger was able to console himself with prize money of 817,500 dollars (approx. 750,000 euros).

“I didn’t end up hitting the ball well enough to give myself a good chance at birdie. But sometimes that happens. I made a few nice putts, so I’m happy with that,” said Jäger, who played in early April Houston celebrated its first victory on the PGA Tour.
Matti Schmid also presented himself strongly: The Bavarian shone with a 62 on the par 71 course and moved up to fifth place. He received $307,500 (approx. 280,000 euros) as a reward.
