In the ongoing dispute between the golf empires PGA and LIV, the hardened fronts have softened a little further.
The US PGA Tour lifted its long-standing ban on professionals from the competitive series financed by Saudi Arabia for participation in the legendary continental competition Ryder Cup and the major tournament PGA Championship. The PGA made the decision a week after further discussions with LIV managers about the complicated implementation of the already agreed cooperation between the two organizations.
“To ensure that the PGA Championship continues to feature the strongest field of players and that the U.S. Ryder Cup team continues to have access to the best U.S. players, the PGA Board of Directors has decided that LIV players will be eligible to play in both competitions, said the PGA.
The decision, which is effectively immediately valid, will not take effect until 2025. The PGA Championship will take place in May in Charlotte, North Carolina, before the biennial Ryder Cup will be played between teams from the USA and Europe in New York at the end of September next year .
