Golf professional Matti Schmid narrowly missed his first victory on the PGA Tour. The 26-year-old from Regensburg came in tied third place with 265 strokes after four rounds at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas.
The American JT Poston (31) secured victory and $1.26 million in prize money with 262 strokes. “That was fun. What a game,” Schmid wrote about his success Instagram.

Matti Schmid finished tied for third at the Shriner’s Children Open in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA). After a strong tournament, the Regensburg resident reflects on his performance and is looking forward to his visit home the following week.
For him, it is his best result on the PGA Tour after third place at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in December 2023. After a furious start, Schmid was in the lead together with Poston after the second round on the par 71 course. After a mixed third round, he moved up from tied for eighth to tied for third place on Sunday with six under par.
But he couldn’t stop Poston on his way to his third PGA title. The American Doug Ghim came second (263 strokes).
