Historically good together: Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz reached the final of the ATP Finals in Turin after a strong comeback.

The German Davis Cup doubles beat the Australians Max Purcell/Jordan Thompson 2:6, 6:3, 11:9 in a dramatic semi-final on Saturday after being down one set and are aiming for their first title on Sunday Season finale of the best tennis professionals.

Krawietz/Pütz also took revenge on the Australians for their defeat in the final of the US Open around two months ago. The professionals from Coburg and Frankfurt had already made history in the Italian metropolis by reaching the semi-finals; never before had a German double reached the semi-finals in the 55-year history of the finals.

The German tennis doubles Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz are proud and happy after the historic first final by a German tennis team. On the Sky microphone they both review the semi-final they won.

Final opponents have been determined

Opponents in the final on Sunday (3 p.m./Sky) are the French Open winners Marcelo Arevalo/Mate Pavic (El Salvador/Croatia), who won 7:6 (7:1), 7:6 (7:4) against the Wimbledon champions Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten ( Finland/Great Britain) had the upper hand in the second semi-final. In the group phase, Krawietz and Pütz won against Arevalo and Pavic in two sets.

Krawietz/Pütz had a very difficult time at the beginning against Purcell/Thompson, who had spoiled the Germans’ first joint Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows in September. The German duo played incorrectly, the Australians were perfectly coordinated and repeatedly scored points with strong lobs. However, the Germans improved significantly in the second round and the match tiebreak had to decide. In this one too, Krawietz/Pütz were initially behind, fended off a match point with strong nerves – and used their own first match point to reach the final.
