Audience favorite Jannik Sinner is in the final of the ATP Finals for the second time in a row and gives the Italian fans hope for a home win.
The world number one gave the Norwegian Casper Ruud no chance in the 6:1, 6:2 semi-final in Turin and goes into the final on Sunday as the clear favorite (live on Sky from 6:00 p.m.) against the American Taylor Fritz, who had previously thrown Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev out of the tournament.
The 23-year-old, who is still facing a doping ban, secured both major titles on hard courts this year (Melbourne and New York) and is aiming for the perfect end to the year in front of his home crowd. Last year he was defeated by the Serb Novak Djokovic in the final, but now the omens are good: Sinner had already defeated Fritz, fifth in the world rankings, in two sets in the group phase of the prestigious season finale.
Sinner continues to be in top form
The tour dominator Sinner was in top form on Saturday in the Inalpi Arena, as he was in his three group games, and played almost flawlessly. Ruud immediately conceded the break in the first round, Sinner was merciless and secured set one after just 29 minutes.
Even in the second half, Sinner lived up to his role as favorite at all times, played variably and took advantage of his chances in an ice-cold manner. After just over an hour of play, Sinner converted his first match point into the celebrated final.
