The expulsion of the 46-year-old Matarazzo, who had been in office since February 2023 and whose contract originally ran until the end of the season, had been announced in the past few weeks. Ilzer from Graz as successor?
There should already be a favorite to succeed the Italian-American. According to information from several media outlets, Christian Ilzer is at the top of the list of candidates and could complete the “Ösi” connection at shareholder Dietmar Hopp’s club.
Ilzer is currently still coaching Sturm Graz and recently led the club from Styria to a double and the Champions League. His contract with Sturm runs until 2026, but Schicker and his technical director Paul Pajduch certainly know exactly what the transfer fee is – after all, they both came to Kraichgau from Graz just a few weeks ago.
