Olympic silver medalist Esther Henseleit was unable to defend her title at the Solheim Cup on her impressive debut alongside Europe’s best golfers. The Europeans lost to the US team with 12.5:15.5 points at the 19th continental competition at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainsville. It is the Americans’ eleventh triumph at the prestigious Solheim Cup.
Both teams started the twelve singles on the final day in the US state of Virginia with a score of 10:6 for the USA. Lilia Vu won the decisive half point for the US selection in her match against the Swiss Albane Valenzuela, to great cheers.
Henseleit has a close duel with Lee
The 25-year-old Henseleit from Hamburg, who surprisingly won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris, prevailed in the foursome on Saturday together with the Englishwoman Charley Hull against Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho. In the singles on Sunday, Henseleit earned a draw against Andrea Lee. All in all, she can look back on a “really cool week,” said the German Sky Interview.

The team competition is the female counterpart to the Ryder Cup for men. The twelve best female golfers from the USA and Europe actually meet every two years for continental comparisons. After the Solheim Cup in Spain last year, it was decided to hold the team competition in 2024 so that the event could return to the rhythm of even numbers after the corona pandemic. The 20th edition of the Solheim Cup will take place in Cromvoirt, Netherlands, in 2026.
