The German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl no longer has to do without his congenial teammate Connor McDavid at the Edmonton Oilers.
As the Stanley Cup finalist from last NHL season announced, the three-time MVP is returning surprisingly earlier than expected after an ankle injury. McDavid is already back in the starting lineup for the upcoming game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night (2:30 a.m. CET).
“I feel good,” said McDavid: “I’m happy to come back. I was a little lucky that it wasn’t that bad.”
McDavid was injured against Columbus
The Canadian suffered the injury almost a week ago, shortly after the start of the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets (1:6). Initially, an outage duration of “two to three weeks” was communicated. During McDavid’s absence, the Oilers won two games, but most recently Edmonton failed to score against the New Jersey Devils (0-3).
Without striker McDavid, Draisaitl in particular had an even greater burden on his shoulders of having to deliver – but that’s what the German did. Draisaitl scored three goals and three assists during that time. Overall, the 29-year-old center has nine goals and seven assists in 13 games. McDavid managed three goals and seven assists in ten games before his injury.
