German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl paved the way for the Edmonton Oilers to their seventh win in the 15th game of the NHL season.
The Cologne native scored his tenth goal of the season in the third minute to give the visitors the lead in the runner-up’s 7-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks, and he also prepared the Oilers’ third goal. Edmonton, which had lost twice before, is still looking for the consistency of a championship contender early in the season and sits in eighth place in the Western Conference.
Moritz Seider suffered a loss with the Detroit Red Wings (0:4 at the New York Rangers), while Tim Stützle and the Ottawa Senators won 3:2 at the Boston Bruins after extra time. Both remained without a goal.
