In the spectacular 5:7 against the Montreal Canadiens, even the Munich native’s seventh goal of the season could not help the home team to their fourth win in a row and thus the hoped-for jump to one of the coveted final round places.
Both teams gave the fans a memorable exchange of blows. Up to 5:5, the Canadiens had taken the lead three times and the Sabers twice, but each time the equalizer fell again – the last time after Peterka’s goal to make it 5:4 (44th).
However, after the fifth tie, Montreal used two power plays to score the decisive goals for its first win after two defeats in a row.

Philadelphia led 3-0 after 25 minutes at the Wells Fargo Center, then the Sharks came up. Jack Thompson (36′), Mikael Granlund (39′) and Barclay Goodrow (58′) forced overtime with their goals, and no goals were scored in the additional five minutes. San Jose came away empty-handed in the shootout, with rookie Matwei Mitschkow and Travis Konecny securing the home win. Sturm remained without a scorer point in a good seven minutes of action.
Both teams started the season weakly. The Sharks have 13 points, the Flyers have 14 points.
